OFF BEAUTY Namdaemun: K-Beauty Outlet Inside Seoul’s Oldest Market

Most first-time visitors to Seoul buy their K-beauty in Myeongdong. The prices there are fine, but they’re retail prices, and every shop carries the same stock. A ten-minute walk away, inside Namdaemun Market, there’s an outlet that sells the same brands at a fraction of the price. It’s called OFF BEAUTY, and it isn’t on most itineraries yet.

This post covers what Namdaemun Market is, how to find OFF BEAUTY inside it, and what things actually cost, based on a visit in September 2026.

What is Namdaemun Market?

Namdaemun Market (남대문시장) is the oldest and largest traditional market in Seoul. It sits directly behind Namdaemun Gate — officially Sungnyemun, the 600-year-old south gate of the old city wall — and covers a dense grid of streets and multi-storey buildings in the Jung-gu district.

It is primarily a wholesale market. Around 10,000 shops sell clothing, accessories, kitchenware, eyeglasses, ginseng, imported goods and flowers, and many of the buildings are organised by floor: accessories on one level, flowers on another, imports in the basement. Alongside the shops there are covered arcades and food alleys — the kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) alley and the hotteok stalls are the ones most visitors come for.

It is not a curated, polished market. It’s loud, crowded, and easy to get lost in, and that’s part of the appeal. Prices are generally lower than in Myeongdong or Insadong, and it’s one of the few places in central Seoul where you can still see the city’s wholesale trade running in the open.

Getting there: Hoehyeon Station (Line 4), Exit 5 brings you straight into the market. From Myeongdong it’s about a ten-minute walk west along Toegye-ro. Most shops open around 9am and close by early evening; many are closed on Sundays.

What is OFF BEAUTY?

OFF BEAUTY (오프뷰티) is a K-beauty outlet store. The concept is simple: it buys overstock, discontinued lines and previous-season inventory from Korean beauty brands and sells it at 30–90% off the original retail price. Think of it as the beauty equivalent of an off-price fashion store.

The Namdaemun branch is a single large floor with a purple storefront that’s hard to miss once you’re on the right street. Inside, the shop is organised into sections — Skin Care, Sun Care, Mask Pack, Make Up, Perfume, New Arrivals — but the presentation is deliberately no-frills. Most products sit in purple plastic bins or on metal shelving, each with a tag showing the original price, the outlet price and the discount percentage. There are testers on the shelves for most perfumes and hand products, and a “Global’s Pick” label marks items that sell well with international visitors.

These are prices from our visit. Stock rotates quickly and prices change, so treat them as a reference rather than a guarantee.

Perfume

The perfume shelf had the deepest discounts in the store.

• Magnetic Santal Eau de Parfum 50ml — ₩119,000 → ₩30,000 (75% off)
• Stay Perfume 80ml body mists — ₩32,500 → ₩7,000 (78% off)

Hand care

• Huxley Secret of Sahara Hand Refresher — ₩15,000 → ₩9,000 (40% off). Six scents, testers available.

Imported gift sets

A small section carries imported brands, mostly gift sets, at more modest discounts.

• Jo Malone London 100ml colognes — ₩239,000 → ₩185,000 (23% off)
• Jo Malone London 30ml colognes — ₩110,000 → ₩90,000 (18% off)
• Hermès Eau d’orange verte travel sets — ₩69,000–149,000 → ₩50,000–99,000 (28–34% off)

Everything else

Skincare, sun care, sheet masks and makeup are mostly in the bins, priced between ₩2,000 and ₩15,000. Sheet masks were around ₩1,000 each in multi-packs. Room diffusers from Korean brands like Mumchit and Stay Perfume were 36–85% off.

Tips before you go

• Check expiry dates. This is outlet stock. Most items are well within date, but it’s worth turning the box over, especially for skincare.
• Bring a bag or buy one. The store sells its own purple tote bags. Bins make it easy to over-collect.
• Testers are for testing. Tester bottles are marked with a purple sticker. Don’t buy those.
• Tax refund: We didn’t confirm whether tax-free shopping is available at this branch. Ask at the counter if it matters to you.
• Combine it with the market. OFF BEAUTY is a 20-minute stop. Give the rest of Namdaemun at least an hour, and eat in the noodle alley before you leave.

Is it worth it?

If you’re in Seoul for K-beauty specifically and you’re already going to Myeongdong, yes. The walk is short, the discounts are real, and the perfume section alone justifies the detour. You won’t find the latest launches here — that’s not what an outlet is for — but for stocking up on Korean perfume, hand cream and skincare basics at a fraction of retail, it’s the best-value stop we’ve found in central Seoul.
